American Craft Week October 3-12

O Beautiful!   Admire the talent exhibited by local painters, sculptors, jewelry makers, fiber artists, and a whole host of other artisans and crafters along the  O Shenandoah County Artisan Trail.   Join us for a variety of events and exhibits as we celebrate American Craft Week October 3-12.

 

s_unvendor1O That Beat!   Get out your dancing shoes and roll up your sleeves for some good ol’ country music at Shenandoah Jamboree featuring Jett Williams at The Yellow Barn at Shenandoah Caverns.   Looking for some feel-good folk music, head to Strasburg for Music in the Park on October 5 featuring John-Robert Rimel, a local 14 year old singing sensation who was featured on Ellen as he plays with the valley’s favorite troubadour, Rich Follett.

 

 

 

 family250O What Fun! Fall is festival season in the Valley.  Experience small town hospitality and charm as you explore the many crafters exhibiting during the Mount Jackson Harvest Festival, October 11-12.  This festival offers fun for the entire family with a petting zoo, scarecrow making, live music and entertainment, trolley rides and more.  Can’t get enough of the petting zoo?  Head over to Posey Thisisit Llama Farm for Open Barn Day on October 11 where visitors can meet Lilly the rescued llama, Babie Boy the Holstein steer, Ava rabbit and other animals in addition to the 32 llamas that permanently reside on the farm.  They will also be offering llama and sheep wool spinning demonstrations and hand spun items available for purchase.

 

 

165Oh The Bounty!  Stop by one of our many local farm stands or farmers markets such as Mowery Orchard or Woodbine Farms for the freshest produce and locally sourced items.  Get lost in the corn as you navigate your way through Maize Quest at Bridgemont Farms.  This local corn maze features barn slides, go karts and other activities for the family to enjoy and is located beside the iconic Meem’s Bottom Covered Bridge.   Cross Route 11 and pick your own pumpkins at the Pumpkin Patch at Mount Airy Farms.

 

 

 

 

O Fruited Plain!  Savor the fruits of our award-winning wineries including the oldest vineyard in the Shenandoah Valley, Shenandoah Vineyards and the region’s only malbec producing vineyard, The Winery at Kindred Pointe.  Take in the views as you stroll the boutique farm winery of Cedar Creek Winery or enjoy live music at North Mountain Vineyard.

O The History!  Learn about the history of the valley as you tour The Edinburg Mill and view the works of local artists at the 4th annual Edinburg Mill Art Show.   Learn about the history of rug hooking at the Strasburg Museum’s exhibit by local rug maker, Jill Kupeski.

 

 

 

 

IMG_0852O The Inspiration!  Be inspired as you tour artist studios including Distinctive Art Designs by Demski, or Susie Wilburn’s Laughing Orange Studio.   Make your own costumes and enjoy other’s works at the Crafty Readers Exhibit at the Shenandoah County Library.
