Holidays on the Trail
Hopefully, you have heard of the Rappahannock Artisan Trail, where creativity and the river begin!
The many of the artisan trail wayfinding signs that have popped up throughout Rappahannock County? The Rap.Artisan Trail to date has the largest number of participants of any trail developed in the state Artisan Trail Network to date. Our rural county has 100 participants. If you are not familiar with the Artisan Trail: a state-wide effort to market the talent of Artisans, (including craft, fine art or agriculture) to encourage a tourism destination.
You will have many opportunities to benefit from the artisan trail signs that denote where our local talent lies for shopping this holiday season. Many require appointments to visit so be sure to check the website for contact information. Meanwhile, here are some of the artisan sites that have regular shopping “open hours” and are ready to welcome you during the holiday season:
On Chester Gap you’ll find Tree Top Studio, where clay artist Cathy Wolniewicz has created handmade demitasse mugs filled with peppermints – a great stocking stuffer! (For an appointment, call 540-327-9028).
In Little Washington, r. h. Ballard Gallery will be celebrating the season with their affordable “Small Works Show” that runs through the 15th of December. Geneva Welch Gallery offers wonderful note cards, prints, and ceramics created with Geneva’s original artwork .
Be sure not to miss Christmas in Little Washington on December 7th, where many of the Artisan Trail Artists will be displaying their wonderful gifts.
In Woodville, Strike Deakins Designs, will be hosting a Yuletide Open Studio Event on November 29th, from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, located at 1 Red Oak Mountain Road. Meagan makes wonderful Renaissance clothing. You will also find her at the Christmas in Little Washington Festival.
In Sperryville, Glassworks Gallery will be waiting to show you amazing & functional handblown glassware, made by glass artist Eric Kvarnes, like this beautiful oil lamp.
November 28th to 30th, 11:00 – 6:00pm, Sperryville be alive with holiday celebration. Coterie Shop™ will be hosting the 3rd annual Artisan Market. You’ll find glass ornaments made by Patti Brennan, ACV Juried Virginia Artisan holiday tabletop gardens and floral creations by Jen Perrot (which are locally sourced), tastings from Wild Root Apothecary and Cocoa Manna. Local musicians will be serenading with holiday music. Also, that weekend, Knit Wit will host an open house, serving samples of their Women’s Bean Project soups and dips, highlighting their Christmas ornaments and holiday gifts.They will also be offering a 10 percent discount to residents of Rappahannock, Culpeper & Fauquier.
