For the past ten years Onancock has been celebrating Second Fridays with galleries and shops staying open until 8pm. With that in mind, we are kicking off the June event by inviting you to explore studios which are normally open by appointment as well as many of our local shops and cultural sites who have agreed to be open all three days for your weekend enjoyment.

On the west coast of Virginias’ Eastern Shore, Onancock was founded in 1680 and explored by Capt. John Smith, who called it the “Gem of the Chesapeake”. A short run down Onancock Creek takes you out into the Chesapeake Bay, and beyond that to wherever you live in the world.

Now a modern hive of artistic creativity, you will be astonished at the diversity and talent that has collected here in zip code 23417! Of special artistic note, the Virginia’s Eastern Shore Artisan Trail features 8 Juried Virginia Artisan members of the Artisans Center of Virginia, of which 6 live and work in Onancock and are featured on our Open Door Studio Tour.
