Art of Glass, Dorothy Brandts — Trail Site #63 (8215 Oak Crest Dr, King George, VA 24485)

Second Saturday at Oak Crest Winery Artisan Dorothy Brandts will demonstrate the design and fabrication of a stained glass panel. “Magic happens when you add rays of light dancing through the vast variety of types and colors available from brilliant cathedrals to mysterious opals and ring mottles. I had fallen in love with stained glass.”

Historic Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern — Trail Site #39 (73 Monument Place, Heathsville, VA 22473)

Kumihimo: The Art of Japanese Braiding 

Watch members of the Tavern’s Spinners & Weavers Guild demonstrate the ancient art of Kumihimo, a Japanese braiding technique. If you’re interested in learning yourself, sign up for a future class. Kumihimo can be used to make colorful purse straps, lanyards, textile closures, and jewelry.

Oak Crest Vineyard & Winery — Trail Site #63 (8215 Oak Crest Dr, King George, VA 24485)

Sangria sale and stained glass! Oak Crest Winery is surrounded by beautiful picnic areas, deck and patio with fire pit where you can enjoy your picnic or savor our cheese, crackers, and wine. Typically, ten or more wines are available for tasting/purchasing thus customers will find at least one (usually more) that appeals to their taste.

Cost: Free Entry, Wine tasting fee $5.00 per person.

 

Stratford Hall  — Trail Site #120 (483 Great House Road, Stratford, VA 22558)

Sunset Kayaking on the Potomac 

Enjoy the breathtaking sunset while paddling a kayak down the Potomac River. Join us on Saturday, July 14, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for this special kayaking experience brought to you by Stratford Hall. View the spectacular prehistoric cliffs and search for birds and wildlife along the shore from your kayak.
The kayaking tour will be led by Denise and Bill Micks, retired school teachers, who opened a Fredericksburg-based outdoor recreation and interpretive business in the early ‘70s. They will supply Old Town traditional tandem kayaks, large and stable with easy access in and out, ideal for both the absolute novice and experienced kayaker.
Beginner and experienced paddlers over the age of twelve are welcome. Preregistration is required. The registration deadline is Thursday, July 12.
