Catherine Kauffman Fine Art

Art Sale and Burn Party

Ten percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Northumberland County Animal Shelter. The sale starts at 3 p.m. and there will also be artists on the grounds painting or demonstrating their techniques. At dark, the artists will light a bon fire and a celebration will commence! Flights of Fire has agreed to provide fire dancing and then the artists who wish to participate will toss old, unloved works of art into the bon fire and purge themselves of the really “bad” stuff (and free up some studio storage space in the process). Beverages and snacks will be available throughout the event. Cash, checks and credit cards welcomed for the sale.

Historic Rice’s Hotel / Hughlett’s Tavern in Heathsville

Artisan Open House
The Tavern is home to four artisan guilds and all will be demonstrating during this special open house as part of the Artisan Trail’s “Arts on the Vine” Wine and Arts Crawl.
The Tavern Spinners & Weavers will be dying fiber outside on the porch of our “Activity Building,” located behind the Tavern. Try dying yarn yourself, using several different methods. Meanwhile, upstairs in their studio, you can watch weaving and spinning. The Woodworkers Guild will be on the Tavern porch, demonstrating decorative wood burning. Sign up for a class to learn how to burn feathers or trees on wood. Out back in the Tavern’s operating forge, the Blacksmith Guild is at work until noon. Come watch and chat with a Blacksmith. The Quilt Guild will be demonstrating in their studio located on the first floor inside the Tavern.
While you’re here, browse the Tavern’s “Heritage Arts Center” Gift Shoppe, which sell hand-crafted wares made by local artists and artisans. Several artisans also have their studios on-site, including a jewelry-maker, a weaver, a spinner & maker of bobbin lace, a “thread artist”, a sewer, and an artist who gives new life to “furniture road kill” with whimsical painted designs. Have lunch in the Tavern Café, which sells light luncheon fare and sweet treats, including fresh-baked bread, all made by the volunteer members of the Tavern Culinary Guild.
